11/7 Weekly Email
Hi All,
We’re approaching the holiday season but things at UAEA are as busy as ever. We’re working on a number of discipline cases, pre-planning our URT negotiations, and prepping for the drop of the first Segal data. We also have a few important announcements this week - please read carefully then follow-up as appropriate.
First, Newsletter and Member Recognition. Our Quarterly Newsletter is out this week. I’ve attached a copy to this email and we will be delivering copies of it to bulletin boards around the City as well. I want to highlight this one since we’re announcing our new “Member of the Quarter” Program in it. We want to recognize exemplary employees every quarter starting in January of 2025 and we’ll be accepting applications through Friday, December 13th. You can submit nominations at any time throughout the year but there are specific deadlines if you want something reviewed within a certain time period. Please check out the list of rules on our website and find the application here as well as on our website’s feedback page.
Second, Holiday Party Signups. UAEA will be hosting our annual holiday party on Monday, December 2nd. The event will take place 4:30PM-7PM at Spokes on Southern, a bar/event space northeast of Mcclintock and Southern in Tempe. Sign up here if you would like to attend. This same survey can be found on our website’s feedback page if you lose this email. Please rsvp by Monday, November 25th at 5PM so we have an accurate headcount for the venue.
UAEA planned this event’s day and time based upon feedback from the holiday party survey shared last month. We recognize that some employees would like to attend but will be unable to due to their normal work schedule. If this applies to you please fill out the following survey and the UAEA Exec Team will plan an additional form of celebration for you before the end of the year.
Third, Veterans Day. Please remember that the City of Tempe is closed for Veteran’s Day this coming Monday, November 11th. Please enjoy your long weekend and do not show up to work if you are not scheduled. As always, we remain deeply appreciative of the employees who still have to work that day and hope they can also find some time to celebrate the holiday.
If you’re looking for something to do on Monday, Tempe hosts an annual Veteran’s Day parade that will be starting at 10AM near ASU Tempe’s Gammage Auditorium. More information on that event can be found here.
Fourth, Member’s Meeting. Our next member’s meeting will be on November 14th, from 12-1PM at the JGM Water Treatment Plant. Find the details and a map here. Please contact Leah Sergeant (leah_sergeant@tempe.gov) by Tuesday, November 12th, at 5PM if you would like to attend.
I don’t have a good closing remark this week but did want to say that I continue to be awed by the sheer amount of work that gets done by our members every single day. I don’t think it’s always obvious how the Tempe Parks get trimmed, the swimming pools get maintained, and the payroll gets processed, but when you dig in you start to see just a lot of smart, driven people and hard work as the cornerstone of every workgroup. You all form the foundation of a city of nearly 200,000 people and I promise to continue singing your praises at the highest level of local government from now until the end of my term.
Thanks for a great week, all!
Joel Guy
