2/20/25 Scholarship Announcement

Hi all, 

I’d like to formally announce the opening of the 2025 Jacquelyn “Jackie” Awosika scholarship program. This annual scholarship is in honor of one of our past UAEA Presidents, Jackie Awosika, who served for many years in the role when our organization first began. She helped negotiate our group’s first labor contracts, fought tirelessly for member’s rights, and was incredibly proficient at documenting and preserving the processes necessary to run our organization.  

Every year we allocate $2500 for scholarships to support UAEA members and the children of UAEA members who are attending college or a technical school. Scholarships are mainly awarded based upon the quality of the applicant's essay - all applications will be anonymized and given to a panel of 3 reviewers who will independently score all materials. Once the final scores are aggregated, the panelists decide how to distribute the funds. 

More details are available on the application, the attached flyer, and on our website. This year the scholarship will be open until Friday, April 18th at midnight. After that our panelists will review materials, determine the winners, and announce the finalists in early to mid-May. Winners will receive scholarship funds, a certificate of merit, and a chance to be recognized at a future City Council meeting.
