10/10 Weekly Email

Hi all,

Thanks for another great week. I had some lovely conversations with members across the City and learned a lot about some of the issues our team is passionate about.

First, Indigenous People’s Day. Next Monday, October 14th, is Indigenous People’s Day and a City holiday. Please remember to not show up to work if you’re not scheduled. Tempe City Council has acknowledged that Tempe’s land is the historic home of the O’Odham and Piipaash people - you can learn more at this link

Second, Meeting Minutes. We had our monthly membership meeting this afternoon at the Tempe Transportation Center. I shared a few updates and staff from Care7 came and discussed the resources they provide across the City and, potentially, for our members. If you have a City job that involves constant interactions with the public I strongly suggest you check out what they offer. I have attached both their presentation and a copy of our meeting minutes.

Third, More Surveys. I committed to offering our membership more opportunities for feedback and I’m trying to follow through with that. The surveys I sent out in the last email are all still up but I’ve added a few more if you’d like to weigh in. These new ones have also been added to uaeatempe.com/feedback - check last week’s email if you need the password to access it.

UAEA is trying to create online spaces where people can hang out, chat with their peers, and share information or ask questions about the City. We’d like to know what forms of social media our members currently have and suggestions about websites or platforms that might best support a rapidly growing group. The space should ideally be free to access (we don’t want to have to pay a monthly fee as a business), something people already use, such as for their personal social media habits, something that allows us privacy/the ability to regulate who joins, and something that allows comments and back-and-forth discussions. Please give us feedback about online spaces on the below survey.

We also want to hear from members if they have suggestions about what we do for our annual holiday party and when we should have it. We expect that we will be unable to find a time that works for everyone so we’d also like to do something for those who can’t attend the party due to their work schedules - if you could provide feedback on that as well we’d greatly appreciate it. We do not have unlimited resources to utilize for holiday celebrations but we also want to aid in holiday spirit - please let us know if you have any suggestions for things we can do.

Thanks again for another great week, everyone!
